welcome skeet! glad you made on the board... Well we are still in our first week but what a great first week! 28 members, I have been advertising the board pretty hard - make sure you all eventually take the poll I have up - I want to get an idea on the overall demographics... I even found out how to put a counter up.
Well skeet, the object of the board of course if MMT patients who have the desire or who already have gotten off of benzos - I hope you get the desire to someday go through with it but it is at your pace and no one here knows you like you know yourself.
Thanks for making it here, spread the word, thanks for posting and keep it up!

TEXT/me
Hello, my name is Ann and I am from Oklahoma. I just ran across this board thru Watchdog.
I have been on Valiums for about 6 yrs. I never abused them because I don't like them. I was on Three a day but I only took one for all the years. Mainly take them due to my leg problems. Well since getting on methadone they are always trying to get u off of them. I have already cut down to a half of a 10mg and have been taking 5mg for several months now. What I need to know is how to go ahead and get off of them. I am on 4 different blood pressure pills and the valium sometimes will help with the headaches I get. I am also on pain medicine because of all the problems I have with pain. I need at least 2 surgery's and maybe 3 or 4. In Oklahoma we have very unfriendly doctors towards people on methadone so I keep waiting trying to find a good one, I have a huge tumor in my stomach and its getting huge and I need knee and back surgery.
If anyone lives in this area please let me know where maybe I can get some relief. I am on 150 mg of methadone right now and need to go up but they are worried about the valium. Thanks Ann

Welcome Anne...I was wondering you say youve been on 10mg valuim for 6 years ?why are they giving you these valuims?,you mentioned pain in your legs, stomach, back!,im just couriuos as to why a doctor would give valuim for pain?,can u maybe explain a bit more?im so sorry for your pain and how long have you been on methadone at 150mgs? ,this is really sad what other meds are you taking? you really need to be careful that your doctors all know your meds every one of them at at how much per day you take!,both family and methadone doctor ,people have to realize your only fooling yurself by taking pain meds on methadone as it is a blocker for opiates, skye!

Hi everyone....not sure if I "belong" here.. if you can tell from my username, I am a nurse who is 'clean'/never had an addiction problem, & never had to become personally involved with it until I met & fell in love with my fiance. I knew he had a problem when we met, and respected him for wanting to try & do something about it, and of course, I wanted to 'help'. We've been thru it all in the 2 years we've been together, so there's nothing we can't get thru. I've bought so many books, etc. and spent so much time on here trying to understand as much as I possibly can, but sometimes I get frustrated & just don't know what to do, so I thought maybe someone here can help me!! I have many questions..as he's on MMT & Benzo's & has chronic pain issues..... Thanks!!

To copedepent..sorry i never realized you were a nurse ,so then you must know the reprocusions of w/d ,especially with benzos...the sezouir part right? or maybe you havent seen one,its the same as any sezoiur but its by not getting enough of the benzo getting into the brain, the brain as you again mus know is very complex,i still cant figure much of it out ,along with many professional doctors...so all i can say is ur in the right place ,but be careful..skye!..tweety

Hi Everybody,Kate here. Some of you alredy know me from the Dawg or WSM,and yes, here I am again!!! I try to support all these boards that help and pertain to my recovery and today was the first chance I got to check this out,A little about me,I am female in my 40's('nuff info there ) and have been off and on MMT since 1975 .This time on for 6 years and have been off the Benzos for almost 10 months!!! They were a royal Bi**h to kick.More later if you want the gory details.I don't really know what all else to say w/o sounding redundant,so maybe I'll post again when I am not so tired and worn out.I have a lot of chronic pain, and this past week has been a Killer.Anyway I hope this board gets up and thriving,'cos I know that benzo use and abuse is a huge issue among MMT patients .RH,Thanks for creating another Forum for those of us who need it.Good Job!!! Kate

Hi Skye! Thanx for the post. I want to say I like this forum a lot, because other message boards have poeple who get pretty defensive & nasty when people ask them about their addictions. Everyone here seems to be very friendly & knowledgable, and very willing to help others by sharing their stories, even to 'outsiders' like me. I thought for sure someone would have told me to go to a "families of/my loved one is" board instead of this one. But like I said in the w/d boards, I already know how to relate to clean people since I live it. What I need to know is how to understand & possibly help people who want to get rid of thier addictions. Most people tell me to leave, to force him, to give him ultimatums, etc., but I find those things way too harsh when you love someone. I mean, you can love the dog, but hate the fleas, right??So I have no true desire to "get rid of the dog in spite of his fleas". Anyway-yes being a nurse I do know the S/E's of benzo's & the risk of seizure with abrupt W/D. I have patients with seizure disorder, so I know what to do, etc. And my fiancee has had seizures in the past from benzo wd & alcohol WD, so I'd like for him NOT to have one again. But HE CHOOSES to do what he does & I guess HE has to accept all the consequences. Like some of you say, maybe he hasn't had W/d bad enough yet, but it's heartbreaking to watch this & it's awful hard to sit here & act like it doesn't affect our relationship. All I know is that now that he has his bottle of valium back he can take all he wants, so he'll be out of them pretty soon. Should I cut him off at the pass by telling his doctor what he does?? She suspects it anyway from the lie she caught him in the last time. And as for doctor shopping, I just won't be his transportation anymore. What do I do or not do?

TEXTHello everyone! ;DReally glad to find this board seeing I'm on methadone for pain and klonapin for seizures. I have never tried to come off benzos before . they say I should be on them forever, but I don't think so.I'm 52 and kicking methadone 20 years ago darn near killed me. The storys I here of how bad it is to come of benzos are pretty scary!!!Glad to be here though. I am director of Maryland NAMA, but we don't talk much about benzos.Glad I found you all! Later.

welcome! for people with seizure disorder that is usually the most effective way to keep them at bay but we address the mmt patient that abuses them... I am not sure you fall in to that category but welcome still nonetheless!
