Those on MMT commonly find themselves at one time or another dependent on some form of Benzodiazepine such as Valium, Klonopin, Xanax, etc.
This presents unique problems for the MMT patient who should get off of benzos altogether yet continue his or her MMT. The common detox centers would have you withdrawal both at the same time. That can be a very traumatic experience. Here at this board we will share common experiences / suggestions of how we can get benzos out of our lives yet continue our life saving MMT.
The medical community knows little about benzo addiction. It knows even less about what to do with a person tapering from benzos and who wish to continue his or her MMT.
This is a serious matter and the professional community has yet to learn.
I became benzo free on Dec. 19, 2003. I have also been a MMT patient since Dec. 16, 2001 and continue to this very day on a dose of 100 mg. During my quest to become benzo free, I was mislead, mistreated, misguided almost every step of the way costing me sanity, time, money, and nearly my life. I was mislead by the medical community - the only one's who were able to help were those who had gone through a similar experience.
If just one person's suffering can be minimized or we are able just to say, "hey, what you are feeling now is normal" it may help avoid someone from committing suicide or getting on a handful of additional non-essential medications.
Due to the unique withdrawal syndrome benzodiazepines presents BY mimicking of numerous mental disorders and extremely lengthy symptomatic period, a support group is not helpful, but absolutely necessary if you are passing through a particularly painful taper and withdrawal period.
I have few rules on this board, I ban nothing at this point in time. Keep it clean as possible. Try to keep thing at a suggestional level only. Enjoy and I hope we all can together help someone.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS BOARD, I REQUEST YOU TO BE MEMBERS TO POST. THANK YOU.
