addicted means there is a dependency yet an abuse potential that is going on, dependent is you need it t function but are taking it as perscribed.
i.e. diabetics are dependent upon insulin, MMT patients are dependent on methadone.
I suppose the only one who knows if they have a dependence or addiction is oneself.
In my opinion is there a difference, well absolutely. Is there a difference re: benzos ?- Well, I have a personal viewpoint that I think they are too "slippery" to be dependent on them because many times espeicaly with MMT patients, in turns into an addiction before you know it... the line is crossed. I just think for MMT patients many times the benefit of benzos is not worse the risk of becoming addicted to.

Hi robin..see i have a hard time seeing it like this ,i feel theres not really such thing as dependant on ,its just another word for addicted too!,for example if you dont take that insluin for your condition you can possibly die right?so your addicted to them in a kinda way, same with cancer patients if they dont get their meds they can die,the pain without these meds is a diferent senorio, imo, pain being dependant on?or addicted to?...can one functiona normallife being in a high range of pain? not imo...same with other medical conditions can one function on a normal scale with their meds? i feel if they answer no their addicted!they need this med to function on a daily scale of living activities, its not depending on them really ,well its actually both ,they depend that pill will get them normal or better which ends up to an addiction!...without it can be in their heads or actual but it all boils down that these meds are being taken daily so the patient dosent feel pain! in other words they need them,in other words theyre addicted so that emtional,or physical pain dosent arise...,i feel its just the medical feilds way of .....making the word addicted to seem not like such a bad thing, but it actually when it boils down to it really boils down to the niddy giddy means the same!!!! skye! oh coarse imo..

I think addicted inplies abuse of a substance whereas dependent upon a medication does not indicate abuse.

hi skeet yes i can realate to the ,but it can also be said the other way to rephrase that!,turn it around and i feel imo it means the exactly same thing ,when you get to the bottom line!,still putting that pill in our bodies to function!example,im dependant on taking that insilin ,otherwise i ll get ill ,but im also addicted to it cuz if i dont get my insilin, i could die!..See it kinda is the same diferent wording ,imop it means the same outcome!,just a thought! bye skye!
